Light makeover for Waihi's Poppet Head
Have you seen the new lights on the Waihi poppet head?
The replica poppet head at the top of Seddon Street has had a ‘light’ makeover.
A new lighting system has brightened up the monument to Waihi’s mining history providing a guiding light to Seddon Street.
The poppet head is a replica of the types of poppet head that were prevalent in the early part of the 20th century over mine shafts in the Waihi area.
Poppet heads were the frameworks supporting the cages that lowered and raised the men and machinery into the mines.
If you haven’t seen it yet, remember to check it out after dark. The bottom lights even change colour.
